How well does AI understand your culture?

We're an international team working on building and evaluating AI models that can understand different cultures from around the world. We need your help to collect images and captions that capture daily life in your part of the world.

Languages

We are collecting data for more than 50 languages in collaboration with local language leaders. Please reach out if you would like to coordinate data collection for your language.

Contribute Data

We are collecting data via a public online platform. You can create an account to keep track of your contributions, or you can upload data as an anonymous user. Ideally, we would like you to contribute your own images, or images that are freely licensed. Our online platform is GDPR-ready with an automatic tool to protect individual privacy with face blurring.

We will reward the best regional contributors with stickers, mugs, and t-shirts. Stay tuned for more details.

Categories and Concepts

We are collecting data in five major categories across the whole world. Our local language leads have already prepared a set of target concepts for each country, but we're always open to including more concepts.

Food and Beverages

Traditional dishes, local ingredients, and beverages that are common in your region. This includes everyday meals, special occasion foods, and drinks that are part of your cultural practices.

Clothing

Traditional garments, everyday clothing styles, and accessories that are typical in your culture. This covers both formal attire for ceremonies and casual wear that reflects local fashion or customs.

Buildings

Architectural styles, home layouts, and building designs that are characteristic of your area. This includes traditional structures and contemporary buildings that reflect local building practices.

Instruments, Tools and Utensils

Objects used in daily life, work, cooking, and cultural practices. This covers traditional tools, kitchen utensils, musical instruments, and equipment specific to local crafts or professions.

Celebrations, Sports and Events

Festivals, religious ceremonies, sports activities, and community gatherings that are common or important. This includes both large public events and smaller private practices.

This Wonders project aims to collaborate with individuals and communities across the world to collect images and captions that are more representative of their daily lives and cultures. The goal is to enable AI models that respect and reflect the diversity of cultures globally.

The project is open to supporting more languages. Kindly check the map on the website to see whether your language is included. If you notice during submission that your language is not listed, please get in touch with us and we will be happy to guide you in adding your language.

You can contribute in many ways, including submitting images with captions in your local languages and supporting community outreach. Everyone is welcome, regardless of background. Contributions are voluntary, and all contributors will be credited and spotlighted on our website.

Yes. We recognise and appreciate outstanding contributions. The best regional contributors will be rewarded with Wonders-branded stickers, mugs, and T-shirts, and will also be spotlighted on our website.

The language leads rigorously review submissions and validate them as they are received.
